It occours to me that traditions are an ever evolving thing.
I remember as a child my mother putting the first presents under the Christmas tree. We all knew what was in the present. We all knew this would be our only present to open on Christmas Eve. I'm sure that when I was younger my mother had hand made the pajamas that were always there. In later years she bought them. I'm sure it wasn't because I had become the picky one. It couldn't be about ME!?! But that's neither here nor there. This tradition has changed some. Now I'm the mom wrapping the Christmas Jammies and putting them under the tree to torment the children with the wonderings of "what will they look like?" I dread this almost every year but only as I'm in the process of making the pajamas. I love to sew but the job of sewing 3 pairs of pajamas is a bit daunting. I'm, by no means, a master seamstress (although in my head I am). Trying to please a 12 yr old is next to impossible these days but to add in that her 3 year old sister wants to have matching jammies just makes it that much harder. Then add to the mix that the 6 yr old brother wants to be included in the sameness factor as well... makes me want to give them clothes a la The Emperor's New Clothes...
That said, last year was a hit, can I do it again this year? I thought so until Katrina asked for a new pattern! WHAT?!? I just figured out how to make that last new one! GAH! Okay so new patterns for all. Thank heaven really, I was so bored with the pattern I use for Sam. So now Sam and Rebekah will use the same basic pattern and Katrina, will get one that's a bit more adult. Yet, Katrina and Rebekah will have the same fabric. it'll be interesting to see how this all turns out.
