Cooby me....

Rebekah, my darling little comic, never ceases to amaze me with her ideas.

I was putting her in bed the other night, when she said,
"Mommy, don't turn out the hall light, it cooby me in the dark"
"What?" I asked her.
"Da dark cooby me."
Now she'd been watching Scooby Doo this week and I fully expected that "cooby" meant Scooby Doo.  I was wrong after further investigation I learned that "cooby" means "scare".  She was scared of the dark.

oh my...

So my uncle was in town for Thanksgiving. He wanted to get together with us for dinner along with my mom, dad and sisters. So 3 uncles, my mom, dad, sisters, niece, me, Nathan, Sam, Rebekah and Katrina, plus 2 girlfriends to two of the uncles= friggin huge table at Applebees. Katrina orders fajitas, yummy. She sets off the fire alarm. Nothing ruins dinner more quickly than a fire alarm going off. They turn it off and I'm left to wonder, what's worse: that a simple sizzling dinner set off the alarm or that NO ONE moved to leave? At least it was just the dinner not an actual fire. All is well.
Later as we're finishing Rebekah is making the rounds around the table. Linley, Ashley, Nana (quick touch of Papa's whiskers--eewie), then to Katrina, Dad, Mom...then the fun begins. She was leery of Uncle Bob. Why? I'm not sure. But they're talking.
"I nemember you comed to my birthday..."

"yes, I did."
Uncle Bob then makes kissy faces at her.
"no! you have hairs in your nose!"
close luv, it's called a mustache.

traditions...

It occours to me that traditions are an ever evolving thing.

I remember as a child my mother putting the first presents under the Christmas tree. We all knew what was in the present. We all knew this would be our only present to open on Christmas Eve. I'm sure that when I was younger my mother had hand made the pajamas that were always there. In later years she bought them. I'm sure it wasn't because I had become the picky one. It couldn't be about ME!?! But that's neither here nor there. This tradition has changed some. Now I'm the mom wrapping the Christmas Jammies and putting them under the tree to torment the children with the wonderings of "what will they look like?" I dread this almost every year but only as I'm in the process of making the pajamas. I love to sew but the job of sewing 3 pairs of pajamas is a bit daunting. I'm, by no means, a master seamstress (although in my head I am). Trying to please a 12 yr old is next to impossible these days but to add in that her 3 year old sister wants to have matching jammies just makes it that much harder. Then add to the mix that the 6 yr old brother wants to be included in the sameness factor as well... makes me want to give them clothes a la The Emperor's New Clothes...

That said, last year was a hit, can I do it again this year? I thought so until Katrina asked for a new pattern! WHAT?!? I just figured out how to make that last new one! GAH! Okay so new patterns for all. Thank heaven really, I was so bored with the pattern I use for Sam. So now Sam and Rebekah will use the same basic pattern and Katrina, will get one that's a bit more adult. Yet, Katrina and Rebekah will have the same fabric. it'll be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Sigh

Seems like forever since I've been on but new stories are always needed.

So lets move on to funny Hancock Kid stories.

Rebekah had a night mare one night. She woke up screaming a sad, pouty scream. I went to her.

"what's wrong darling?"

" I had a bad dream!"

"oh no! a bad dream? what did you dream?"

" I dreamed that I was a monster."

"whoa you were the monster? what did you do?"

"I scared Baby Tella" (baby Tella being her favorite doll, Stella)

"Oh no, how did you scare Baby Stella?"

in the most sad voice ever, "I said 'Rawr'!"
